Supported barcode scanners

Any barcode scanner your computer treats as a keyboard works with Stockie. That covers most wired USB and Bluetooth models. There is nothing to install and nothing to pair inside Stockie.

Checking a scanner before you buy

Plug it in, click into any text field - a search box, a blank document - and scan something. If the code types itself into the field, it will work in Stockie.

That test is worth doing with hardware you already own before buying more.

Where scanning is used

• Receiving stock against a purchase order
• Counting during a stocktake

Both use the same field, labelled Scan barcode or type SKU, so a scanner is not required - you can type instead.

You do not have to scan a barcode

The field matches on more than the barcode, and the two screens differ slightly:

• Receiving tries the barcode, then the supplier SKU, then your SKU
• A stocktake tries the barcode, then your SKU

So a product with no barcode can still be scanned in or typed in, as long as it carries a SKU. When receiving, a supplier's own code works too, which is useful when their labels carry their codes rather than yours.

What does not work

Worth knowing before you plan a shop-floor workflow around handheld devices.

If a scan does nothing

• The code being scanned has to match something on the line - the barcode, your SKU, or on a receive the supplier SKU. A variant carrying none of those cannot be matched
• The scan field needs to be focused. Click into it before scanning
• If the scanner types into other applications but not Stockie, it is nearly always focus rather than the scanner
