Why you cannot see historical inventory
Available on: Pro and above.
Stockie's inventory reports show where you stand now. They cannot show you where you stood on a date that has passed.
Why
Two reasons, and both would have to change:
- Stockie does not store historical inventory levels. Stock figures are read and reported as they are, not archived day by day
- Shopify does not provide historical inventory either. There is no way to ask what a variant's stock was on a given date, so it cannot be reconstructed after the fact
What to do instead
Export on the day. Run Reports → Inventory value on the last day of the period and keep the file. That export is your record of that date, and it is the only way to have one.
Worth putting in the calendar as a month-end task, because it cannot be produced later.
What you can look back on
Plenty is queryable over a past period, just not stock levels:
- What you received -
Reports → Purchase orders → Purchase order receipts, filtered by date - What you adjusted -
Reports → Inventory adjustments, filtered by date - What you sold - Shopify's own reporting
From received and adjusted quantities you can often reconstruct the movement across a period, even without the closing position.
