Setting lead time, safety stock & restock to
🔒 Pro plan feature
The settings covered in this article are part of Stockie’s inventory forecasting features and are only available on the Pro plan.
Lead time, safety stock, and restock-to values are key forecasting inputs that help Stockie determine when and how much to reorder.
You can configure:
- Global defaults first (applies to most products)
- Per-supplier lead time.
- Optional overrides for specific products, only where needed
Where to find these settings
In your Stockie app, go to:
Forecasting → Manage settings
On this page, select the Reordering option from the side menu.

Default reorder settings
These settings apply to all variants by default, unless you explicitly override them later.
| Setting | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Default lead time | The number of days it usually takes for stock to arrive after you place an order. | If it typically takes 14 days for your supplier to deliver, set your default lead time to 14. |
| Default safety stock | The minimum number of days of inventory you always want on hand as a buffer against delays or spikes in demand. | If you want to maintain at least 30 days of inventory on hand, set this to 30. |
| Default restock to | The maximum number of days of inventory you want to have after restocking. Stockie uses this to calculate your suggested reorder quantity. | If you want to restock to 90 days of cover after each order, set this to 90. |
💡 Tip: These defaults apply to all variants unless overridden at the supplier level or at the variant level.
Precedence order: Default → Supplier → Variant override.
Per-supplier lead time
If you work with multiple suppliers, you can define a specific lead time for each supplier.
This allows Stockie to automatically use different lead times depending on which supplier a product is linked to.
How supplier lead time works
- You create or import suppliers via the Suppliers page.
- On each supplier’s page, you can define a Lead time (days).
- Any products linked to that supplier will automatically use the supplier’s lead time instead of the global default.
Reorder setting overrides (per-variant)
If some products need different values (for example, different suppliers or priorities), you can set variant-specific overrides.
How to set up overrides
-
At the bottom of the Reordering page on the Variant overrides card, click Manage
This opens the Reordering overrides table
Enter custom values for:
- Lead time (days)
- Safety stock (days)
- Restock to (days)
- Changes auto-save as you type

You can override settings at the variant level, giving you fine-grained control where needed.
Simply edit the Lead time, Safety stock, or Restock to fields directly in the table — Stockie auto-saves your changes instantly.
💡 Tip: If you want to set the same values for multiple products with the same tag, use the table filters to filter by tag. You can then select all matching variants and use the bulk actions (for example, Update lead time) to apply changes in one go.
When overrides are useful
Examples of common override scenarios:
- High-priority SKUs might have extra safety stock (e.g. 45 days) to ensure coverage.
- Slow movers might be restocked to fewer days of cover.
If a variant’s field is left empty, Stockie automatically uses your default value for that setting.
How these settings are used
Stockie uses your configured values to calculate:
- Reorder points: When you should place a new purchase order so that you don’t run out before the next shipment arrives. Learn more →
- Suggested reorder quantity: How much you should order so that when the new stock arrives, you’re brought back up to your target days of cover. Learn more →
These calculations power your Smart Mode notifications and appear in your Inventory Forecasting table.
How incorrect values impact forecast accuracy
Your lead time, safety stock, and restock-to settings directly influence Stockie’s calculations. If these values don’t reflect reality, your forecasts may appear inaccurate. For example:
- Lead time set too low → You may reorder too late and risk stockouts.
- Lead time set too high → You may reorder too early and hold excess inventory.
- Safety stock too low → Not enough buffer for delays or demand spikes.
- Safety stock too high → Frequent reorders and unnecessary inventory.
- Restock-to days too low → Small reorder quantities that require more frequent ordering.
- Restock-to days too high → Larger-than-needed order quantities.
Getting these values right ensures Stockie can forecast accurately and recommend the right reorder timing and quantities.
