Excluding products you won't restock

Discontinued lines cluttering your reorder suggestions have two correct fixes. Both stop the product being suggested. The difference is whether you still want to see it: excluding it from scope takes it off the page entirely, while setting max to 0 leaves it there with its stock visible.

Excluding from forecast scope

The product disappears from the forecast entirely. Use this for ranges you have stopped selling and no longer need to watch.

1. Go to Forecast & replenishment → Manage settings → Scope .
2. Add the products to the exclude section - individually, by collection, or by condition.

A condition is the efficient route for a whole range. If discontinued lines carry a tag, or a character in the SKU, one condition removes all of them and keeps removing new ones you mark the same way. See Scoping the forecast.

Setting max to 0

The product stays in Forecast & replenishment with its stock visible, but is never suggested for reorder. Use this while you are running stock down and still want it in view.

1. Go to Forecast & replenishment → Manage settings → Min/max levels .
2. Choose the location.
3. Set max to 0 for the variant. Leave min blank.

Min/max levels are per location, so repeat it at each location holding the stock. See Min/max levels.

What about the demand adjustment?

A 100% decrease will stop the suggestions, so it is a reasonable thing to try. It leaves the product in an awkward spot, though.

Taking the velocity to zero means the product shows no velocity, no reorder point and no suggested quantity - the same as one with no sales history behind it. Coming back to it in six months, there is nothing to tell you which of the two you are looking at.

It is also easy to lose track of, and an adjustment set at store level reaches everything it covers rather than the one line you had in mind.

Scope and max 0 leave a clearer trail, and stop the suggestions just as well.

Archived and draft products are already excluded

Products archived or set to draft in Shopify are outside the forecast by default. If an archived product is still appearing, something else is going on - check your scope rules for an include that is pulling it back in, and check whether the forecast has run since you archived it.

When the change takes effect

At the next forecast run. Press Run forecast to see it immediately.
